Many types of refurbished IT equipment are sold in condition grades, and refurbished monitors are no different. A monitor’s condition grade (usually A, B or C) is an indicator of whether or not it has any cosmetic damage, how serious this is and what parts of the monitor it affects.

All monitors are tested with a burning test that looks for discolouration and dead pixels. To be classified as Grade A, a monitor must pass the test with no dead pixels or discolouration. Grade A monitors may contain scratches and scuff marks on the casing body and on the stand with minor signs of use. However, they won’t have any scratches or cracks on the screen itself, with the screen in excellent condition.
Grade B monitors have to pass a screen test with no discolouration, however they may feature light scratches and pressure marks on the screen. There may be dead pixels on the display, up to 5 dead pixels are considered acceptable for Grade B. They may also contain scratches and scuff marks on the casing body and on the stand with minor signs of use. A Grade B monitor might feature a damaged cable holder, while the screen could have multiple scratches and/or scuff marks, but there will be no cracks or excessive damage on the screen.
Grade C monitors may contain multiple scratches and scuff marks on the casing body with signs of use. There will also be noticeable scratches and scuff marks on the screen, as well as potentially blemishes or dark marks. There may be lines spanning across the screen, as well as potential ‘dead zones’ and multiple dead pixels. They might also have slight dents around the edges.
